IGINIIT ni Senator Alan Peter Cayetano na hindi matatapos sa pagbabago ng liderato ng Senado ang paghahanap ng katotohanan sa mga iregularidad sa flood control program ng pamahalaan.
Sa isang online statement nitong June 17, nagpasalamat si Cayetano sa mga sumusuporta sa kanya at kinilala ang mga kaalyado na nanindigan sa kanya. Kasabay nito, sinabi niya na ipagpapatuloy niya ang pagtutok sa pananagutan sa flood control projects.
Inilabas niya ang pahayagag sa gitna ng usapin ng pagbabago ng Senate leadership. Ayon kay Cayetano at sa kanyang mga kaalyado, may kaugnayan ang sigalot na ito sa mas malalim na pagtutok sa paggastos ng gobyerno para sa mga naturang proyekto.
Giit pa ni Cayetano sa kanyang pahayag, hindi raw ang posisyon sa Senado ang tunay na isyu. Ang mahalaga para sa kanya ay ang pagpapanagot at pagpapatuloy ng imbestigasyon.
“This was never about the Senate presidency. From the very beginning it was about the truth — the truth about the flood-control funds, the billions meant to shield our towns and our families from the waters, the protection that was paid for and never came. That is the fight that began all of this — one side wanted to bring it out, the other desperate to keep it covered. And it is a fight that we intend to continue, no title or position required,” sabi niya.
Kinuwestiyon din ni Cayetano ang layunin ng special session na ipinatawag ni President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nitong June 17. Aniya, wala sa 21 priority measures na tinukoy ng Pangulo ang nakatakdang talakayin sa special session.
“The President himself named twenty-one priority measures for passage by June, and when our leadership changed, his Palace promised the public there would be no slowdown. Yet not one of those twenty-one appears to be set for passage today,” wika niya.
Ayon pa kay Cayetano, ang mga bills na nakatakdang maisabatas ay isang panukala para sa pagtatag ng national orchid at grant of citizenships sa dalawang atleta.
Samantala, aniya, ang tanging priority measure na nasa agenda ay ang Anti-Political Dynasty Bill na nasa interpellation pa lang.
“We could have done the people’s work these past weeks — had the effort gone into governing rather than into counting to thirteen. Instead, the real work waits. Cover-up time muna,” sabi ni Cayetano.
Hinala ng senador, ang mangyayaring special session ay para lamang pagtibayin ang pagbabago sa liderato ng Senado.
“Which leaves one honest question. If we are serious about working, then let us pass serious bills. And if we are not — if this Special Session is only the Palace’s way of legitimizing its chosen Senate President — then the only thing special about it is that it proves our point despite all their denials,” sabi niya.
Sa kanyang statement, nangako si Cayetano na ipagpapatuloy niya ang paglalaban sa katotohanan at accountability anuman ang maging katayuan niya sa Senado.
“Offices are temporary, titles are temporary, even majorities are temporary — but your right to the truth is not. I promise you, we will get to the bottom of this. We will find the Masterminds. We will hold them accountable,” sabi niya.
“I may leave the position of SP, but I am honored to still be your PS — your Public Servant,” dagdag niya.
Iginiit dni Cayetano na dapat resolbahin ng Korte Suprema ang mga usaping konstitusyonal kaugnay ng sesyon nitong June 3, na aniya ay walang quorum at samakatwid ay walang bisa.
“We have said from the first, and we maintain still, that what was done on June 3 was done without the quorum the Constitution requires, and was, for that reason, void,” wika niya.
Nagbabala rin siya sa umano’y pakikialam ng ehekutibo sa Senado.
Sa kabila nito, tiniyak ni Cayetano na magpapatuloy ang kanyang suporta sa mga agarang hakbang ng Senado, kabilang ang ayuda para sa mga biktima ng lindol sa Mindanao.
