DAPAT mas maagang inihain ni ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano at kaalyado nito ang kanilang petisyon sa Korte Suprema na layong maibalik sila sa kapangyarihan, upang mabigyan ang Kataas-taasang Hukuman ng sapat na panahon para pag-aralan at magpasya rito, ayon kay Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson nitong Martes.
Ayon kay Lacson, ang paghahain ng petisyon sa bisperas ng special session na ipinatawag ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay tila isa na namang desperadong maruming taktika ni Cayetano upang igiit ang kanyang “kapangyarihan” bilang Senate President.
“Ex-SP Cayetano should have done that earlier to give the Court sufficient time to study and rule on the issue now being raised before the Court. Instead, he chose to file it at the last minute or a day before the special session called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which intended to tackle pending priority measures and the CA to tackle the confirmation of AFP officers and DFA officials, including a formal election of Senate President Pro Tempore and Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian,” aniya.
“Is he trying to dig deeper in his bag of dirty tricks to create a scene by invoking that pending action by the Supreme Court on his petition, he may still exercise his authority as Senate President?” dagdag niya.
Nauna nang sinabi ni Lacson na handa ang majority bloc na pinamumunuan ni Gatchalian sa anumang maruruming gimik na maaaring gawin ni Cayetano sa espesyal na sesyon ng Senado ngayong Miyerkules.
Aniya, maaaring magkaroon ng mabigat na tungkulin ang Senate Sergeant-at-Arms kung muling magdudulot ng kaguluhan si Cayetano sa sesyon.
“Acting SP Gatchalian and the majority bloc should not and will not allow that. The Senate Sgt-at-Arms may have his arms and hands full tomorrow in case another of a series of crises is again created by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano,” aniya.
