NANAWAGAN si Senador Joel Villanueva sa pamahalaan na magpalabas ng kabuuang pondo para sa earthquake recovery sa kabila ng patuloy na pagtaas ng bilang ng mga nasawi sa magnitude 7.8 na lindol at sa libo-libong indibidwal na wala pa ring matirhan sa apat na rehiyon sa Mindanao.
Naghain si Villanueva ng Senate Resolution No. 447 nitong Lunes na humihikayat sa gobyerno na gawin ang lahat ng nararapat na hakbang upang matiyak na may sapat at mapagkukunan ng pondo para sa pagtulong, rehabilitasyon, rekonstruksiyon, at pagbangon ng mga apektadong komunidad sa mga lugar na tinamaan ng lindol noong Hunyo 8.
“Beyond the immediate humanitarian response, substantial resources will be required to restore damaged infrastructure, rehabilitate schools and hospitals, rebuild homes and communities, revive local economies, and support the recovery of affected families, workers, farmers, fisherfolk, and businesses,” sabi ni Villanueva.
“While existing disaster-response mechanisms provide immediate assistance during emergencies, the magnitude of the destruction and the scale of rehabilitation and reconstruction required may exceed currently available resources, thereby necessitating additional government support to ensure a timely, comprehensive, and sustainable recovery effort,” pagpapatuloy niya.
Tumama ang lindol 32 kilometro sa karagatan sa kanluran ng Maasim, Sarangani, malapit sa Cotabato Trench.
Ayon sa Office of Civil Defense, umabot na sa 61 ang nasawi habang 33 ang nawawala at 1,221 indibidwal ang nasugatan base sa datos noong Hunyo 12.
Sa talaan ng Department of Social Welfare and Development, 553,068 katao sa apat na rehiyon sa Mindanao ang naapektuhan ng lindol. Sa kabuuan, 9,393 katao ang nananatili sa 26 evacuation centers na pinapatakbo ng pamahalaan, habang 54,274 indibidwal naman ang nasa makeshift arrangements.
Sa General Santos City pa lamang, umabot na sa P1 bilyon ang inisyal na damage assessment – kabilang dito ang mga mall, ospital, hotel, simbahan, bangko, at paliparan, batay sa pagtataya ng Department of Public Works and Highways.
Nagbabala pa ang senador sa mas malawak pang epekto kung hindi agad matutugunan ang pagkagambala sa agrikultura, fisheries, logistics, at commerce sa Mindanao, lalo na’t ang isla ang isa sa pangunahing tagapagtaguyod ng food production at agricultural exports ng bansa.
Nanawagan din ang senador para sa pagpapanumbalik ng transportation system, water and power infrastructure, mga paaralan, at mga health facility, kasabay ng paghikayat sa pamahalaan na tiyaking “resilient and climate-adaptive” ang gagawing rekonstruksiyon ng mga gusali at imprastrakturang sinira ng lindol.
“A swift and decisive government response is necessary not only to address the immediate needs of affected communities but also to prevent further economic dislocation, support local government units, protect national economic interests, and ensure that the people of Mindanao are able to recover and rebuild from the devastation caused by the earthquake,” ani Villanueva.
